Professional Beta

Open to healthcare providers and researchers working in the TS/TD field. Help test Gilles before it opens to the public.

Welcome

Thank you for helping test Gilles

This guide covers what to focus on, what not to do, and how to send feedback. Sign up here, and Charles will follow up with next steps to get you into the beta build.

What Gilles is

Gilles is a free, privacy-first iOS app for people with Tourette Syndrome and Tic Disorders, built around evidence-based self-guided behavioral tools, symptom monitoring, and research participation. This beta build is for testing design, navigation, and functionality only — not for research or clinical use.

Before you start — please read

This build runs on our development infrastructure, which is not yet HIPAA-eligible.

  • Do not enter real personal health information — no real tic data, real diagnoses, or real personal details. Use placeholder or made-up entries instead.
  • Everything you enter (real or placeholder) will be deleted before the app opens to the public. Nothing carries forward.
  • You’ll see a short consent screen on first login restating this — you’ll need to acknowledge it to continue.

What to test

There’s no single “correct” path through the app — explore naturally, the way a new user would. A few areas we’d especially like eyes on:

Usability — what we care about most

Beyond “does it work,” we want your honest read on how it feels to use:

  • Is it intuitive? Could you tell what to do next without having to think about it?
  • Is navigation easy? Do you ever feel lost, or unsure how to get back to where you were?
  • Does it feel convenient or onerous? Count taps, pauses, and “wait, how do I…” moments — those are exactly what we want to hear about, even if you eventually figured it out.

Daily Check-In and Monitor are the two areas most central to whether this app is actually useful to someone day to day — they need to feel low-friction, close to effortless. If either one feels even slightly clunky, slow, or like more steps than it should take, that’s some of the most valuable feedback you can give us.

1. Onboarding

  • Does the registration and setup flow make sense? Any step that feels confusing, too long, or unclear?
  • Try closing the app mid-onboarding and reopening it — does it pick back up where you left off?

2. Daily check-ins & monitoring — priority area

  • Morning/evening check-ins — are the questions clear? Any that feel awkward or repetitive? Could you get through it quickly without re-reading anything?
  • Try a timed monitoring session (Monitor tab) — does the tap tracking feel responsive? Is starting a session fast, or does it take too many steps to get going?
  • Imagine doing this every single day — would it start to feel like a chore? That’s the bar we’re testing against.

3. Practice tools

  • Try each of the four tools: Awareness Training, Competing Response Practice, Suppression Practice, Tic Response Desensitization.
  • Do the instructions make sense before you’re in a session? Is anything confusing mid-session?

4. My Data

  • After a few days of entries, check the My Data tab — do the trends and charts make sense? Anything that looks wrong or confusing?

5. General navigation & polish

  • Anything that feels broken, slow, visually off, or just doesn’t make sense?
  • Try it on whatever device(s) you have — different screen sizes sometimes surface different issues.

How to send feedback

For each issue or thought, please try to include:

  • What you were doing (which screen, which action)
  • What you expected to happen
  • What actually happened
  • A screenshot, if it’s a visual issue

Send feedback directly to Charles, however is easiest — email, text, or in person. Small things count too: if something felt confusing or clunky even if it “worked,” that’s useful feedback.

Thank you

Your name will be added to the app’s Special Thanks screen ahead of public launch by default — if you’d rather stay anonymous, just let us know and we’ll leave you off. This kind of early, honest feedback from people who understand the TS/TD community directly shapes what launches.
