Evidence-based practice

Tools

Four tools, each built on decades of research into tics and how to manage them:

  • Awareness Training — builds your ability to detect tics and premonitory urges, which helps you get more out of the other tools.
  • Competing Response Practice — the foundation of CBIT, retraining the brain to respond differently to tics and urges.
  • Tic Trainer: Suppression Practice — a game-style tool that gradually extends tic-free intervals, with points and levels for stretching them further.
  • Tic Response Desensitization — an ACT-based mindfulness tool to reduce distress and reactivity when tics or urges occur.

A quick, repeatable check-in

Monitoring

Tap the Motor and Vocal buttons each time you notice a tic, then see your counts revealed at the end. Sessions can be as short as 30 seconds — for a quick, convenient snapshot — or as long as 3 minutes for tics with a longer interval between occurrences. Afterward, a short check-in asks how the session compared to usual.

Building the bigger picture

Trends

Use Monitoring multiple times a day, and Trends starts to show how your tics are waxing or waning over time. Combined with the rest of what's logged in the app, it can help reveal how you're responding to different events, treatments, and life circumstances.
